FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Getting started

How do I open photos from a card?

Connect the card reader, tap Pick a folder in CullBit, then select the folder containing your photos. CullBit also scans its subfolders.

Do I need an internet connection?

You can review and process photos offline when the files are available on your device. Buying or restoring Pro through the App Store requires an internet connection. Download files from cloud storage before working offline.

Does CullBit copy my card into the app?

No. CullBit reads a selected folder in place. It keeps previews and your current ratings in app storage, then writes, moves, exports or deletes files only after you confirm.

Why is CullBit asking me to choose the folder again?

If CullBit cannot reopen a saved folder, tap Pick a folder and select it again. CullBit restores the previous session when the folder and its files still match.

RAW, ratings and processing

Why will my RAW file not open?

CullBit uses the RAW decoders included with your device. Support depends on the device and OS version. If a file does not open, email us the camera model and file extension.

Will my ratings appear in my editor?

CullBit keeps your ratings and rejects locally while you review. During processing, it can write them to XMP sidecars beside the originals. Pending ratings are also written to XMP before rated photos are moved. Whether your editor reads them depends on its XMP support. CullBit reads embedded ratings but does not overwrite them.

What happens when I process a session?

Choose actions for rated and rejected photos, then review and confirm the plan. CullBit can write XMP sidecars, move rated photos and their sidecars to another folder, export originals or JPEGs to Photos, or move rejects into a dated folder inside _Rejected. In JPEG mode, CullBit can create a JPEG from RAW when needed. Deletion is another processing option: CullBit tries to move files to Trash or Recently Deleted; if that fails, it deletes them permanently.

Purchases

What is the free limit?

You can review, rate and reject any number of photos. Free processes sessions with up to 36 marked photos, including rejects. If more are marked, unmark some photos or unlock Pro before processing. Pro is a one-time purchase with no subscription.

How do I restore Pro?

Sign in with the Apple Account used for the purchase. In CullBit, open Settings and choose Restore purchase. If Pro still does not appear, email us with the App Store receipt.

My question is not listed. What should I send you?

Email cullbit@jamshoot.net. Include your CullBit version, device, OS version and the steps that led to the problem.

File types

What CullBit can open

CullBit looks for these file types in the folder you pick. Whether a RAW file opens depends on the RAW decoders included with your device and OS version, and CullBit shows a message when it cannot create a preview.
